QNG Calculation Table

For life cycle assessments conducted as part of the Sustainable Building Quality Seal (QNG) and the Climate-Friendly New Construction (KFN) incentive program, the table “Life Cycle Assessment – Calculation Values 2023”
is mandatory. It is made available free of charge by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction (BMWSB) in the download section of the QNG information portal (current version 1.3, as of March 27, 2024), along with accompanying documents containing usage instructions and classification recommendations.

The calculation values are based on ÖKOBAUDAT, Version 2020-II, in accordance with EN 15804+A1. The table contains only generic data sets. Replacing these with manufacturer- or product-specific EPD data is currently not permitted within the scope of mandatory application; this will only be possible once the calculation values are converted to data sets compliant with EN 15804+A2.

Structure

  • Part A – Calculation Values for Construction Products: approximately 390 data entries on materials, components, and technical systems, organized by material group and function within the building, including information on the declared unit, mass, bulk density, and weight per unit area and length
  • Part B – Calculation Values for Processes and Services: Primary energy and emission factors for final energy sources and grid-supplied energy (e.g., national grid electricity mix), in each case based on final energy, including upstream supply chains

Indicators

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP100) in kgCO2-eq.
  • Primary energy, non-renewable, total (PENRT, also PEne) in MJ – combined total of energy and material use

Renewable primary energy is not assessed according to the QNG assessment rules. For additional environmental impacts, the QNG recommends consulting the most current ÖKOBAUDAT.

Life Cycle Modules

  • A1–A3 Production Phase (Part A)
  • B4 Replacement – is determined based on the service lives specified in the BBSR table “Service Lives of Building Components for Life Cycle Assessments According to BNB”; for building services components, the QNG accounting rules directly specify the replacement cycles
  • B6 Energy Use in Operations (Part B)
  • C3 Waste Treatment and C4 Disposal (Part A)
  • D1 Reuse, Recovery, and Recycling Potential (corresponds to Module D of ÖKOBAUDAT, Part A)
  • D2 Exported Energy – e.g., credit for PV electricity fed into the grid (Part B)
